There are heap of interesting things you can do while you are not busy riding the waves! During your stay at Mentawai surf resorts, you will receive at least one invitation to go fishing—with the locals or fellow travelers! Fishing with rods are generally the most common method of catching the fish, but sometimes the locals are using spear guns and this adds more excitement to the fun of fishing! It’s pretty easy, too. A large number of fishes are living in the shallow reefs around any island in Mentawai. Just remember to fish responsibly and maintain the sustainability of the ecosystem.
Don’t fancy fishing? Well, there’s diving and snorkelling for you. Like almost anywhere in Indonesia, the water here is warm and the visibility is almost crystal clear. Many surf resorts have dive and snorkel equipment rentals in case you don’t bring your own. However, if dry land is more of your thing, you might want to try trekking and hiking.
